Setting an achievable deadline actually promotes productivity because of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Parkinson's_law\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Parkinson\u2019s Law<\/a>, where the effort and work expands according to the timeline of the task. In other words, the more time you have for the task, the more likely you\u2019ll waste time on it. And a lot of this has to do with flow.<br \/>It takes immense effort to achieve full concentration, and finding your flow \u2013 or being in the zone \u2013 has often been said to produce great results. By placing an over-generous marker, the general tendency is for one to run on half a tank. So if there\u2019s a realistic deadline, then it\u2019s actually working to power your natural motivation.<br \/>But what if it\u2019s a huge project? The Harvard Business Review found out that breaking down larger projects into daily tasks led to <a href=\"https:\/\/hbr.org\/2011\/05\/the-power-of-small-wins\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">better satisfaction and higher achievement rates<\/a> through small wins \u2013 so really, these short-term goals help to nudge people in the right productive direction.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f1c4afd elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"f1c4afd\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>RHYTHM DOES IT<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8cb5ba3 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"8cb5ba3\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>We each have our own <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asianefficiency.com\/productivity\/ultradian-rhythms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ultradian rhythm<\/a>, similar to our circadian cycles for sleep. By working with our natural bio-rhythm and matching our activities to the alert phases, we achieve more \u2013 even if we wake up at 9am instead of 4am. <br \/>As a guide, we generally perform well at a task until it hits about the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/article\/298941\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">90-minute mark<\/a>. Swedish psychologist and researcher Anders Ericsson studied high performers such as athletes and musicians, and found that those at the top of their fields practised in intense bouts. It is evident that we are most productive when hedging work into compartments, and following through with scheduled breaks. <br \/>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asianefficiency.com\/motivation\/pomodoro-technique-ultimate-guide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pomodoro Technique<\/a> for instance, recommends 25 minutes of work followed by a five-minute break. The former creates visual distractions, while studies have shown that a sunlit work spot helps to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.psychologytoday.com\/sg\/blog\/the-athletes-way\/201306\/exposure-natural-light-improves-workplace-performance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">maintain a healthy circadian rhythm<\/a> for better sleep, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prnewswire.com\/news-releases\/study-natural-light-is-the-best-medicine-for-the-office-300590905.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reduces drowsiness by 10 per cent and raises productivity by 2 per cent<\/a>. <br \/>To further enhance your space, adding plants can help.
