Some people think it occurs unexpectedly, but more often than not, it creeps in insidiously. If you still find them indulgent, know that these brief periods of rest have been proven to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.psychologytoday.com\/sg\/blog\/changepower\/201704\/how-do-work-breaks-help-your-brain-5-surprising-answers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">increase productivity<\/a>\u00a0through better focus, improved mental health, and boosted creativity.<\/p><p>For example, stepping away from work can help with decision fatigue, as researchers Danziger, Levav and Avnaim-Pesso discovered. They saw how\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pnas.org\/content\/108\/17\/6889\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">judges were less likely to give criminals a chance for parole later in the day<\/a>\u00a0by making increasingly simplistic calls as time wore on without breaks.<\/p><p>On the flip side, sipping on that cuppa has been found to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hopkinsmedicine.org\/news\/stories\/caffeine_memory.html#:~:text=Moderate%20caffeine%20consumption%20might%20boost,may%20enhance%20long%2Dterm%20memory.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">improve memory<\/a>, and resting led to inspiration, as explained by essayist Tim Kreider. Physical symptoms are your best bet. If your neck is hurting or your eyes are tired, use that as a sign to stretch and move a little, even if it\u2019s just to the living room. Always have regular mealtimes, then just let yourself sit back and enjoy the scenery.
