His work often involves tight project delivery timelines, adding to the daily pressures he faces.<\/p><p>To balance these demands, Zihua turns to fitness as his form of self-care. For him, staying active isn\u2019t just about physical health; it\u2019s about building mental resilience and managing stress effectively. \u201cRegular workouts help me build a resilient mind, keeping me disciplined and focused,\u201d says the 40-year-old, who also volunteers with HomeTeamNS Bukit Batok\u2019s Executive Committee, offering support and guidance on clubhouse operations.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c23d58d e-flex e-con-boxed wpr-particle-no wpr-jarallax-no wpr-parallax-no wpr-sticky-section-no wpr-equal-height-no e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"c23d58d\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-068e615 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"068e615\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">TAKING THE FIRST STEPS TO A HEALTHIER LIFE<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8e55951 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"8e55951\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Zihua\u2019s fitness journey took a serious turn in 2020 when a routine medical check-up revealed that he was at risk for hypertension. His blood pressure was hovering around 140 mmHg systolic \u2014 an indicator of the condition. In comparison, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthxchange.sg\/high-blood-pressure\/essential-guide-to-high-blood-pressure\/high-blood-pressure-BP-reading#:~:text=Normal%20blood%20pressure%20is%20less,high%20blood%20pressure%20(hypertension).\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">healthy blood pressure reading should be below 120 mmHg<\/a>. He researched heart-healthy foods and swapped out junk food for nutrient-rich options like avocados, berries, almonds and walnuts. At the same time, he committed to daily gym sessions during his lunch breaks, fuelled by a light, protein-packed meal of boiled egg whites and oatmeal.<\/p><p>But the real progress came when he switched from treadmill running to high-intensity interval training (HIIT), helping him overcome a weight-loss plateau. \u201cBefore HIIT, I weighed around 72 to 73kg,\u201d Zihua recalls. \u201cAfter switching up my routine, my weight dropped to 63.2kg, as of my last IPPT medical screening in January this year. I feel much more energised now.\u201d<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-178849b e-flex e-con-boxed wpr-particle-no wpr-jarallax-no wpr-parallax-no wpr-sticky-section-no wpr-equal-height-no e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"178849b\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d15ce0e elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"d15ce0e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">FITNESS AS A COMMUNITY EFFORT<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-fc2b9b8 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"fc2b9b8\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>While Zihua occasionally enjoys playing basketball with his colleagues, his commitment to HIIT runs deep. As an SCDF company commander, he firmly believes in leading by example. His fitness accomplishments, including earning his fourth consecutive IPPT Gold Award, serve as an inspiration to his team. \u201cI need to keep myself fit to motivate my men,\u201d he says. \u201cIf I expect them to pass their IPPT, I should be able to do the same.\u201d<\/p><p>By maintaining high fitness standards, he encourages his peers and subordinates to adopt healthier lifestyles, fostering a sense of camaraderie and shared goals within his team.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ffc6597 e-flex e-con-boxed wpr-particle-no wpr-jarallax-no wpr-parallax-no wpr-sticky-section-no wpr-equal-height-no e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"ffc6597\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-bd20a52 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"bd20a52\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">BUILDING A HEALTHIER LIFESTYLE OUTSIDE THE GYM<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e813f35 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"e813f35\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Since embarking on his self-care regime, Zihua says he is now more productive at work. Thanks to his mid-day gym sessions and post-workout cold shower, he feels sharper and more alert in the afternoon, and no longer suffers from post-lunch food coma. \u201cThe cold shower helps my muscles recover and also wakes me up, keeping me focused for the rest of the day. Instead of scrolling through social media, he mentally organises his tasks for the following day, a cognitive exercise that is known to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthhub.sg\/programmes\/mindsg\/caring-for-ourselves\/coping-with-stress-adults\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">help people feel more in control of their busy lives<\/a>.<\/p><p>Zihua offers this simple yet powerful advice to those struggling with stress but finding it hard to start working out: <strong>Begin today<\/strong>.<\/p><p>\u201cMake \u2018one day\u2019 become Day One of taking that first step towards achieving your goals and improving your well-being,\u201d he encourages. \u201cWithout good health, it\u2019s hard to be productive.
