An enviable career in finance.<br \/>\nIs there anything ASP (NS) John Chen cannot accomplish when he sets his mind to it?<\/em><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><!--more-->[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<span style=\"font-size: SMALL;\">TEXT: AUDRINA GAN<br \/>\nPHOTOGRAPHY: PHYLLICIA WANG <\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]ASP (NS) John Chen fondly recalls how his businessman father \u2013 whom he calls his superhero \u2013 would always enjoy activities with him despite his busy schedule.<br \/>\n\u201cThough he had to travel frequently for business, my dad would always make time to play basketball with me. I was inspired to become as successful as him,\u201d he shares.<\/p>\n<p>Decades on, the driven individual boasts his own list of accomplishments. Apart from working as the executive director of financial market sales at Standard Chartered Bank, the 39-year-old also co-owns Aloha Poke, a chain of Hawaiian-style casual eateries.[\/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;64px&#8221;][vc_column_text]He is also an avid runner who has participated in an Ironman race in Taiwan as well as marathons in Singapore, Gold Coast and Berlin. Currently, he is working towards qualifying for the Boston Marathon in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wake up at 5.30 in the morning to run or work out during my lunch break so that I can spend time with my daughters in the evening,\u201d says Chen.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Staying healthy is important, especially as I age.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_gallery type=&#8221;flexslider_slide&#8221; interval=&#8221;5&#8243; images=&#8221;8091,8092&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221; onclick=&#8221;&#8221;][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Chen\u2019s disciplined approach towards life stands him in good stead in his National Service (NS) role in the Singapore Police Force, where he is the Commanding Officer of the Division Special Task Troop 6 in G Division. Here, he oversees the deployment of NSmen from Geylang Neighbourhood Police Centre. \u201cWe clamp down on illegal gaming, drugs and contraband items,\u201d he explains.<\/p>\n<p>His most memorable experiences include an anti-vice raid conducted with the Criminal Investigation Department.
